The Mugglestone Turnbull collection of sporting art grossed over £100,000 at The Fine Sale at Cheffins on 20th September with all 110 lots selling.
Formed by the late gallery owners and husband and wife, Michael Mugglestone and Pamela Turnbull from Leicestershire, the collection demonstrated their love of field sports, farming and the countryside, and included works by Lionel Edwards, Frank Southgate, Cecil Aldin and Charles ‘Snaffles’ Johnson Payne.
Patricia Cross, Associate, Cheffins says:
“Michael and Pamela were owners of the well-regarded Countryman’s Gallery in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire, and started collecting sporting art in the early 1980s. They had a particularly good eye for quality works by some of the leading names in the genre, and the success of this collection goes to prove the enduring popularity of sporting art. There are several dedicated collectors in the market for works by the likes of Snaffles and Lionel Edwards, however the breadth and quality of this collection brought several new buyers to Cheffins. Sporting art has remained consistently sought after among both private collectors and the trade.”
