Martin joined the firm in 2004 after graduating from the Fine Art Valuation degree course at Southampton, having previously completed a stint of work experience with Cheffins at the age of just 14. 

In 2005 Martin established the Art & Design department, specialising in the decorative arts of post 1860, although he remains a general valuer, acting across most disciplines to produce professional valuations for market, tax and other professional purposes.

Martin has become the principal auctioneer for the department, and has often assisted in this capacity across other areas of the business as well as making regular appearances on the charity circuit.
