Bill joined Cheffins in May 1990 and has been an Equity Partner since 1997 and Chairman of the Cheffins partnership since 2009. His role encompasses the valuation and sale of modern and vintage machinery and equipment, machinery auctioneering and general professional advice. He is responsible for on-site auctions of both modern and vintage machinery, which in recent years has taken the firm from Devon to Cumbria, Yorkshire and Northern Ireland as well as throughout the Eastern Counties and the Midlands.
Bill has gained significant experience in valuing and selling modern agricultural machinery, as well as historic vehicles, steam engines, classic and vintage tractors, throughout the UK, for a variety of purposes, such as loan security, insolvency, inheritance and capital gains tax, sale and purchase, business and family division.
Cheffins operate the Cambridge Machinery Sales, which is the largest auction of agricultural tractors and machinery in the UK, regularly attracting over 250 tractors and 1,500 lots of machinery every month which is sold to buyers throughout Europe and further afield. Bill is one of the principal auctioneers at this sale.
He has undertaken numerous valuations under the RICS Registered Valuer Scheme and has been involved in expert witness cases before the Courts.
As with most auctioneers Bill can often be found raising money for various charities as auctioneer at fund raising events.
