Nicolas Martineau, who has worked for Christie’s for over 30 years, is one of a trio of appointments Cheffins Fine Art has made as the Cambridge-based firm continues its expansion.
Nicolas will be primarily working alongside Jonathan Law in Cheffins’ private client department, developing new business for Cheffins around the country.
As a director at Christie’s for over 12 years and an experienced auctioneer both in-house and on behalf of charities, Nick has a wide breadth of knowledge and a particular interest in topographical pictures.
The appointment follows Antiques Roadshow specialist Adam Schoon joining as a consultant and new departmental assistant Gabrielle Downie, who has a master’s degree in Art History from UCL and previously worked at Newnham College in Cambridge.
Charles Ashton, director at Cheffins Fine Art, said: “We are looking forward to 2020 with a strengthened team and Nicolas, Adam and Gabrielle are excellent additions.
Nicolas is a well-known and well-respected figure in the industry and will help with Cheffins ever-increasing business. He has close ties to the region, having been brought up in the region and is now based in Barningham, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.”
Nicolas is excited to be joining Cheffins Fine Art working alongside Jonathan in the private client department.
“I’m looking forward to getting out on the road and meeting and advising new and existing clients,” he said.
Of the other appointments, Charles Ashton commented: “Adam is a great addition and, alongside John Foster who has worked for us since 2013, increases the number of high-profile specialists with Antiques Roadshow links we have working for us as consultants.
“Gabrielle’s presence in our department will be a great asset to everyone in the team.”
Nicolas started at Cheffins Fine Art on Monday 6th January. Adam and Gabrielle started at Cheffins in November and December respectively.
