In total, Cheffins sold over £11.5 million-worth of art, antiques, collectibles and vintage vehicles throughout 2022.
Across the Fine Art and Vintage departments, we span all sectors, with some high prices paid across all of our sales. We offered over 40 sales last year, with a number of highlights, including new records set for various artists, including Jo Brocklehurst and Tirzah Garwood to name just a couple. Key sales for the year included a marble bust of the Emperor Lucius Verus from a Suffolk country house which achieved £80,000, a collection of Martin Brothers ceramics which sold for £168,000, a painting by Franz Richard Unterberger which made £56,000 and various other high prices for Old Master works, jewellery, furniture, ceramics, statuary and contemporary art.

2022 also saw two major collaborations, one with homeware designer, Birdie Fortescue, which involved a photoshoot at her beautiful north Norfolk country home. Thanks to this, we had a real buzz on social media and encouraged a series of new buyers to Cheffins. We also worked with designer and Evening Standard columnist, Jermaine Gallacher, where we promoted our Art & Design sale at his famed Lant Street showroom. This resulted in a column in the Evening Standard and a film of Jermaine behind the scenes here at Cheffins, as well as bringing a ton of new buyers to our auction.

This was also a year of fantastic country house collections from throughout the UK, including Crepping Hall and Chillesford Lodge, both in Suffolk, Birling Ashes in Kent and Wood Hall in Norfolk. Country house collective sales continue to be some of our most popular, and really tend to bring in buyers looking to pick up typical English furniture, art and collectibles. We have a number of country house collections lined up for 2023, which we will be sharing details of in due course.
We look forward to bringing an exciting calendar of sales throughout 2023, with some really strong entries already in place for the Art & Design Sale on the 23rd February and the Fine Sale on the 22nd and 23rd March.
