In advance of The Fine Sale on 11th and 12th September, Cheffins' valuer Chris Halls has curated his five favourite pieces covering a range of prices.
Lot 38 - a large Venetian maiolica albarello: "I love early maiolica and this albarello with its typical polychrome palette has great scale, character and naiive charm." Estimated at £500 - £800.
Lot 394 - an 18th century Dutch neoclassical mahogany knife urn: "Rich dense timber and a wonderful silhouette make this a great centre piece for any 'tablescape'. Place an uplighter behind for added drama." Estimated at £1200 - £1800.
Lot 595 - a George II carved pine wood serpentine console table: "The tension in the table legs gives this piece an animal-like demeanour. With its later top and stripped finish, this is not one for the purists! The charm of early pine, quality of the carving and the perfect proportions of the c-scroll supports that flow into the frieze, make this a great piece for the decorator." Estimated at £4000 - £6000.
Lot 345 - a set of four Regency toleware tea canisters: "A perennial decorator's favourite, the combination of the patinated green and gilt decoration means these would look equally at home perched on a contemporary Perspex console as much as a Georgian mahogany side table. It's unusual to get a set of four together." Estimated at £1000 - £1500.
