The highlight of the sale was £12,000 paid for a painting of a Yorkshire landscape by Sheila Fell (RA). This was quickly followed by a picture by William John Leech which achieved £8,500 and a lithograph by Laurence Stephen Lowry which was sold for £7,000.
Other key lots included a Murano glass Trilobi chandelier by Venini which made £3,600 while in the same vein a pair of Murano table lamps sold for more than three times their top estimate at £1,900, and an Indian rosewood wall mirror from 1980 by Stuart Devlin made £2,800.
The selection of Arts & Crafts, Art Deco and mid-century furniture also sold well across the board, with the price of quality being exemplified by the Peter Waals walnut wardrobe at £1,000, a particularly strong price in a market where most wardrobes are unsaleable. £850 was also paid for a stylish Art Deco desk and all but one of a collection of mid-century Danish chairs and sofas found new homes on the day.
The next Art & Design sale will take place on 9th May, with entries closing on 22nd March.
