The sale of the Keith Flint Collection surpassed all expectations when raising close to £350,000 to help settle the liabilities from the estate of the late frontman of electronic band, The Prodigy.
There was strong bidding right the way through the 169-lot sale in a packed saleroom which generated an excellent atmosphere.
Three MTV Music Awards shaped as a Moonman from 1997 topped the sale when selling for £16,000.
The most talked about item in the sale, the custom-made steel and oak bed supported at each corner by entwined thorns, sold for £8,500.
While putting together the sale it was discovered that craftsman Steve Liddard was commissioned to build the bed in 1997 and took five years to complete the imposing structure. The bed is supported at each corner by entwined thorns and accessed via steps supported on the back of a crouching, winged mythical beast.
Presentation discs were popular throughout the sale as was seen from the very first lot in the sale – a collection of discs presented to Keith from the ‘Music for the Jilted Generation’ album – which attracted 88 commission bids and sold for £5,500.
The highest price for presentation discs was the gold disc for the Prodigy’s debut album ‘Experience’ in 1992 which sold for 13,000.
Among other items sold were a large welded aluminium and steel model ant, the insect used as The Prodigy’s logo, which went for £8,000.
A mixed media artwork called Ninja Butterfly And Bees, created by his bandmate Keith Palmer, aka Maxim, sold for £4,000.
A Gianni Versace Medusa head silver ring, along with a collection of other mostly silver rings, sold for £5,500.
Martin Millard, a director of Cheffins Fine Art, said: “The Keith Flint Collection surpassed all expectations.
