A Geoffrey Baxter vase will go under the hammer at Cheffins as part of the Art & Design Sale on the 24th February.
The vase was donated to a charity shop in Mallorca in 2020 and the proceeds of the sale will be gifted directly to the Allen Graham Charity 4 Kids.
Mandy Johnson, who volunteers for the charity says: “When the vase was donated to the charity shop it raised a few eyebrows, nothing quite like it had been seen in the north of Mallorca. It sat on the shelf with a €5 sticker until it caught the eye of the manager, Joy Shuckburgh. Research online revealed it could be a Geoffrey Baxter Banjo vase. With a lack of auction houses on the island, the vase travelled to Cheffins in Cambridge where it was confirmed as authentic and placed in the upcoming sale.”
Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars, a large tangerine glass ‘Banjo’ vase, estimate £600 - £1,000
The Allen Graham Charity 4 Kids runs two charity shops on the island of Mallorca. Mandy Johnson continues: “Since 1992 funds raised by charity have helped to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Mallorca, who through no fault of their own do not have the opportunity to develop a secure and dignified future. The charity works with 29 children’s homes on the island to help develop life skills. The children and young people need to feel they have a future, one that is full of opportunity, hope and happiness.”
The vase has an estimate of £600 - £1,000.
