On 24th February, the Cheffins Art & Design Sale saw 471 lots go under the hammer, grossing over £411,000, with a 87 per cent sale rate.

The highlights of the sale include:

A Robert Wallace Martin for the Martin Brothers stoneware spoon warmer, dated 1881, which was sold for £17,000 and a Martin Brothers ewer which made £12,000. 

Lot 84, Peter Collingwood macro-gauze wall hanging

A Peter Collingwood macro-gauze wall hanging which sold for £6,500 and £7,500 paid for a Shiro Kuramata chest of drawers. 

Amongst the pictures, a record price was paid for a Tirzah Garwood wood engraving. The picture, titled 'Train Journey' was sold for £11,000. This is the second record held for the Great Bardfield-based artist by Cheffins, following an original painting having made £24,000 in 2017.

Also, nine paintings by artists from Benton End sold for a total of £30,200, whilst other strong prices were paid for works by the likes of George Chapman, Duncan Grant and John Nash. 

The next sale to take place at Cheffins Fine Art will be the Interiors Sale - to include a curated collection of Affordable Art on 10th March.
