After almost 20 years as part of the Cheffins Vintage team, Jeremy Curzon, Consultant, will leave the firm at the end of December.
Jeremy joined Cheffins at 44 years old, starting as a porter at an on-site sale hosted at Chilford Hall, Linton in 1999, before becoming fully employed in 2004, working his way up to Director and latterly employed as a consultant. Jeremy’s achievements as a part of Cheffins are extensive; including broadening the vintage auctions to include items such as motorcycles, automobilia and classic cars, and the consignment and subsequent sale of Winston Churchill’s Land Rover in 2012. Jeremy was also instrumental as part of The Keeley sale in Maidenhead in 2016, which included a vast collection of steam engines, vintage tractors and classic commercial vehicles which achieved record prices and which went down in history as one of the most important vintage auctions to have taken place in the UK to date.
On retirement, Jeremy plans to spend more time with his family and taking part in his wide-ranging hobbies, he says: “I have been lucky to work with a great team at Cheffins and, with the backing of the partners, I have been able to grow the vintage sales to embrace items far beyond just tractors, which I hope has helped to solidify the thrice yearly auctions as the international events which they are today, looked forward to by thousands throughout Europe. Retirement now brings with it the possibility of spending more time with my grandchildren as well as metal detecting, fishing, shooting, playing golf and restoring motorbikes.”
The Cheffins Vintage Sales will now be overseen by Oliver Godfrey, Head of the Machinery Division, alongside Tom Godsmark.
Bill King, Chairman at Cheffins says: “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Jerry, who has played a crucial role in the development of the Cheffins Vintage Sale, helping it to evolve into the spectacle which it is today. As a motorcycle and automobilia specialist, he really helped to broaden the appeal of the sale, bring in both new buyers and sellers, and do it all with a fantastic dose of humour. He is also a skilled auctioneer and a pleasure to watch on the rostrum and he will be greatly missed by both Cheffins staff and clients alike.”
“We are confident that Tom Godsmark, also from the vintage department, will step into the breach to now run the Cambridge Vintage Sales, with these being overseen by Oliver Godfrey and the rest of our experienced team at the Sutton sale ground. The Vintage auctions have grossed over £5.5 million this year, and have demonstrated the continued demand for collectable tractors, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and other paraphernalia, and we will be looking forward to offering a packed calendar for vintage enthusiasts throughout 2024. In the meantime, we wish Jerry all the best with his retirement.”
