Unsigned - A 19th century silver open faced travelling compass, circa 1812, the white dial, 50mm diameter, with steel pointer, black 32 point compass rose and chemin de fer chapter ring with Arabic degree indicators, case, 51mm diameter with stirrup shaped pendant bow and locking lever at 12 o'clock, verso plain and polished with London hallmarks for Sterling silver, casemaker's mark lacking, 62.2g gross Crystal: Complete. Some minor grizzling to the edge and very minor surface scratches. Some dust under the crystal.Dial: In good condition generally. Two hairline cracks (one from SW to NW, the other from SE to NW)Movement: Pointer moves freely. Locking mechanism not fully operational.Case: Overall in good condition. Some surface scratches, minor dents and dings as to be expected and commensurate with wear and use. Hallmarks a little rubbed but readable. Probably originally within an outer case (as a pair case), outer case lacking.
