Description

Circle of Jonathan Richardson (1667-1745)

Portrait of a gentleman, half length, in a blue cloak and white cravat, in a feigned oval
oil on canvas
75 x 62cm

The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been lined. The canvas tension is good and the picture is in plane. The paint layers are in a very good condition overall. There are small touches of overpaint in the sitter’s face. Around the lower edges of the picture are larger, brushy areas of overpaint which are well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, even and glossy.

Framed 90 x 68cm
