The present miniature derives from a full-length portrait, 137 x 112.5 cm, of Pope Pius VII by Vincenzo Camuccini dated to circa 1814-1815, following the sitter's imprisonment by Napoleon in France (Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, inv. no. 1261).
